Yoga is so incredibly important for the mind, body and soul during stressful and uncertain times. Yoga is a self-soothing, mind-body practice that combines physical poses, controlled breathing and meditation. It can help you tremendously in realigning your thoughts, lowering blood pressure and reducing stress / anxiety in your nervous system. We invite you to connect with us at our public, in-studio yoga classes throughout the week or through our virtual yoga classes online.

Grounding During Your Yoga Practices by Laura Tyree

I love talking to my yoga clients and friends via Facebook and in-person. I truly appreciate the things we talk about. I’ve been mentioning some things and wanted to put them out there for everyone else.

Mudras are sacred hand gestures that can deepen your connection during your yoga practice. I’ve been using a Hand Mudra called a Mula Mudra, Mula meaning “Root”. This is a Root Chakra Mudra. Your thumbs represent the divine and your ring finger represents the Root Chakra. The divine (thumb) will be placed on the side of the ring finger, in between the knuckles where there is a soft spot.

dragonfly yoga studio mudra july 2020Put your hands in your lap, close your eyes if you would like, feel the connection. Remember, the Root Chakra is about a sense of survival. Am I safe? Am I going to have enough food or shelter? These are important things for our neural body to recognize. When the Root Chakra is off or we’re feeling anxious, the fight or flight mechanism takes over. Then we have this low grade tone, almost like a low grade fever, of fight or flight going on constantly in the background. That means our meditation practice, our breathing, are all super important right now and you can also add this mudra.

You can hold this hand mudra during meditation, you can even do it during your asana. So during your asana, you connect in between your yoga postures and then you can go into a standing posture. As your arm goes up, in the standing posture, you can do the mudra and remember the connection. It also gives the mind an additional thing to do during your yoga postures and that’s nice to keep you from thinking about other stuff.

We love you and can’t wait to see you back in the yoga studio. Please continue to eat your nourishing foods and connect with the people who help you to feel better. Disconnect from the things that don’t make you feel better – it’s a priceless recommendation. Get your rest, love one another. We love you! Namaste!

Yoga Classes for Everyone

Dragonfly Yoga Studies continues to collaborate with its teachers and students to offer the right mix of yoga classes for our students. We offer yoga classes to fit whatever intention you are seeking that day. Whether it is increasing stability and flexibility or restoring your mental state, you can find the right yoga class at Dragonfly Yoga Studies.

One of our most popular new classes with Laura Tyree is LiiT yoga. Laura combines Low Intensity Interval Training with Yoga to give you a safe and effective way to build long term muscle and burn fat. Join Laura on Mondays at 10 am for LiiT Yoga featuring low-intensity movements or Wednesday at 1 pm for LiiT Chair Yoga with low-intensity movements supported with a chair. If you’re looking for something a little more intense, check out the HiiT (high intensity) classes offered at our sister studio, Hoy Yoga Om, just a few doors down in downtown Fort Walton Beach.

Our chill / restorative yoga classes continue to be increasingly important to relieve stress and recenter our thoughts. Passive postures are held for longer periods of time to help you relax and restore. Our restorative yoga classes include all calming elements. Students will be encouraged to drop deeply inward to replenish the neural system. Relaxing postures combine with breath and unique opportunities to unwind the mind as the body unfolds in this ancient healing practice.

Dragonfly Yoga Studies is also at the beginning stages of its Advanced Yoga Teacher Training Program for 2020! Get more details on our 300 Hour AYTT program here.
